Pastoral care permeates the total climate of relationships within the community of the Catholic School. It has the individual as its focus and reflects the support, encouragement and the tender care shown and experienced in the ethos of Gospel-based communities.
All members of the school community are committed to ensuring a safe and caring environment, which promotes personal growth and positive self-esteem for all. Through positive reinforcement, and recognition and promotion of socially acceptable behaviour, students at St Joseph's develop an awareness of the need to take responsibility for their own behaviour and actions, and to help each other in a spirit of friendship and co-operation.
Pastoral Care ensures that all students and their families are supported to ensure they can develop positively. Students are offered special programs and assistance when necessary including:
Reading Recovery, Speech Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Behaviour Education programs, personal counselling, Grief support and peer support initiatives.
Examples: CASSEROLE BANK The children in Year 5/6 work in the kitchen to create several meals to have stored and ready if a person or family may need help or the kindness of a ready made meal.
CHRISTMAS CAKES The Year 5/6 bake and ice Christmas cakes for those who may have had a tough year or who may appreciate someone thinking of them at this time of the year when family and friends are near and dear in our thoughts.
