St Joseph’s School is part of Our Lady of the Rosary Parish known as St Mary's Parish, Chiltern. St Mary’s gradually evolved around the time of the discovery of gold around Chiltern and once established has continued to be a strong Catholic presence in the area. St Mary's Parish Church is situated beside the school and is administered by Fr. Brian Carey, Parish Priest of St Mary's Rutherglen.
Preparation for the Sacraments of Reconciliation, Confirmation and First Eucharist provide a special opportunity for Home, Parish and School to be renewed in faith as we help children to understand these traditions in our faith.
St Mary’s Parish offers a Sacramental program annually to its age appropriate Candidates, with the Sacrament of Confirmation celebrated every second year. A Sacramental Candidate must have been baptised in a Catholic Church for this faith journey to continue in the Catholic Church.
Sacramental preparation is delivered through a school-parish-home partnership program with the participation in a "home-based" Parish program "Steps in Faith", supported by the school. Parish members accompany the students and their parents in exploring and developing their understanding of the Sacraments of Initiation over a number of weeks.
Through attendance at Mass and celebrating special feasts within the Church, students are regularly provided with the opportunity to receive the Sacraments.
